Paul Schrage

Music Director - Vocal Program / Assistant Artistic Director

Paul Schrage is a dynamic conductor and pianist who currently serves as the Music Director of the San Francisco Civic Symphony. A frequent guest conductor with numerous opera companies, he has worked with organizations including Livermore Valley Opera, Vegas City Opera, and Verismo Opera, among others. His career is defined by his versatility, appearing equally at home performing classical repertoire, jazz, and world premieres.


As a pianist, Schrage frequently collaborates with singers, with a special focus on major song cycles such as Winterreise, Four Last Songs, and Ned Rorem's Aftermath. This extensive background in both the symphonic and operatic worlds makes him a vital asset to the GOVA faculty, where he guides pianists and vocalists through the technical and dramatic demands of the repertoire.
